WARNING - eBay LED Lights.
I bought 10 x these lights from a guy in FRANCE.
User name bynoun. Uses a hotmail address.
first they are naff, which i think everyone except me already knew.
But more importanty, yesterday one EXPLODED in a blaze of glory.
Shot the glass front clear accross the bedroom.
It was VWERY hot.
What would happen if it had landed on my bed???
I'm going off now to report this guy/product to everyone i can
starting with ebay and paypal.
Mark.

Yikes - that's VERY scary indeed.
Glad that no injury was caused though - shudder to think what could have happened.

That's the second exploding LED that's been mentioned on this forum. Given that only about three regular posters have used them, I'd say that was a rather worrying trend.
Were they 230 volts or 12 volts?
I suppose the fact that such a low power unit was very hot must mean that it had started to draw more power than it should. Nasty.

LED Bulbs - RESULTS
The seller has agreed to return the costs, barr the return postage.
Which is an ongoing issue with all ebayers.
There doesn't seem to be a name on them, but they are CE stamped.
But anyone can buy a stamp.
I'll look tonight and post tomorrow.
Mine were the 220vac versions.
My electric is not the most stable in the world, which i am told can
be a problem, but i'm not known to have spikes, only dips.
But they are usually when next door starts milking at 4:30pm.
This happened at 9pm. So was just in normal use.
We shall see if the money comes back.
I'm begining to go off ebays from mainland europe, had nothing but trouble so far. although in france's defence they are the only one to admit a problem and offer a refund, not like the two pesky berliners that have flat refused to accept liability. I digress. Grrrrhhh

Re: WARNING - eBay LED Lights.
We've got a few LEDs about the place, but the better quality ones are sooooo expensive. We did joust with some low cost ones (Chinese, bought from the local 'ard discoont store) but they didn't really emit the light claimed on the package and blew after about six months so were rather a false economy.
Re: WARNING - eBay LED Lights.
A slightly bizarre coincidence that his post (from 2007 ) has recently been reignited...
However it suits me because I have just bought a new light and I am told that the bulbs that came with it will probably be rubbish and I will be looking for suggestions (read ) good advice from this forum. I will need 50w bulbs but they do need to be dimmer ones as there is a transformer involved.
I had a slightly dodgey deal as there are 4 bulbs therfore a 200 w transformer but the packaging came with 4 x 50w transformers. I have bought a 200w transformer and now have......going spare ...........
4 x 50 w transformers. make me a barter offer.
