Swiss chard gratin

Post: # 275481Post julie_lanteri »

For all the Swiss chard fans... I found this recipe on the French website Marmiton and made it last week. It was even better than my grandma's. shhh don't tell her though...

- Swiss chard (enough for your oven dish)
- 1-2 garlic cloves, chopped
- 1-2 tbsp chopped parsley
- a glass of milk
- a piece of bread (about 1/4 slice)
- butter
- about 20 cl cream
- Comté cheese
- salt & pepper

Clean and prepare the chard: chop the stalks into 3cm pieces and boil them for 10-15 min. Roughly chop the leaves and set aside. Drain the stalks.

If using fresh bread, soak it in the milk. (I used stale bread and made coarse breadcrumbs instead)

Mix together the bread, milk, chopped parsley and garlic. Season.

Melt the butter then add the leaves and stalks. Cook for 5min. Add the bread/milk/parsley/garlic mixture, then the cream. Check the seasoning and cook for 2min.

Take off the hob and add some grated cheese (I used cheddar). Pour everything into an oven dish, grate more cheese on top. Bake for 20-30min til golden, at 180°C.
