I keep forgetting to say, first swallow here on Tuesday 30th March. Seen a few more on the way to the village. Now I know they say that one swallow doesn't make a summer, actually I'm not so sure it even makes a spring!!!

Hubby head a blackcap yesterday too. I still haven't heard a chiffchaff yet I've seen one a few times out the window!

And I forgot to add that we had crocuses out before I went away (20th March) and had daffodils out by the time we came back (28th)

Not seen much in the way of birds yet except for being highly entertained yesterday by a pair of Terns, which were dive-bombing (to within a couple of inches) a Buzzard which was sitting on the fence post completely ignoring them. I presume it was to near their roost :dontknow:

I know one swallow doesn't make a summer, but I've just seen my first this year. High up, solitary and heading westward. More must be on their way!

I was surprised to see my blackcurrents already sprouting  . My parsley is also coming up, which was a total surprise to me because I just planted the seeds and was not expecting to see them sprout so quickly. However, I have not heard any signs of the red-wing blackbird--my favourite bird song--yet, so still holding off a bit on calling it Spring. But I am an optimist, so I will definitely plant the rest of the herbs I got at Christmas and leave them out to sprout this week. :flower: .

PS. I am glad that those of you who got that last fall of snow, seem to be doing better now. :hugish:

I saw our first swallow this morning .... it anounced itself by hitting our bedroom window.
It didn't appear to hurt itself, it just seemed to bounce off and fly away again, so maybe there was a tasty fly there.
Later I saw several flying over, so they are probably not "ours" but temporary guests on their way oop't north.

I've only seen 3 so far and none of them have hung around. Bloody things must have been on their way to Wales and Ireland. :(

Yep ... spring is really hear, I spotted my first growbag today.
I didn't realise that they migrated or hibernated for the winter, but I have been after some for a week or two now.
I am forced to have a weeks holiday the week after next and I need to get my toms planted up and the automatic irrigation working and adjusted, which takes several days, so was getting a bit concerned at their late return to our shores.

Oh, also the bluebells are out in bloom.

Heard the cuckoo this afternoon - first time this year. I'd probably have heard it before if it wasn't for the lawnmower (ours)!

No swallows yet. I did see one back in March but none since.
