I've never seen a Jay in the 20 years here

According to my Collins bird book, the Jay is described as "breeds rather more thinly than it's main breeding range" on the distribution map of Ireland.
I agree it's a beautiful bird, but has a rather screeching call.

Different worlds
Blackbirds, house sparrows, starlings!!!!!!! Aggressive feral invaders taking over space from our wrens, honeyeaters, thornbills, finches, shrikes, wattlebirds, parrots etc.
