is there hope for this rose

Is there anything I can do to sort this rose out? There's a leaf growing low on the dead stem that I snapped near the top and it is dry inside, the left is as you can see and there are no flower buds. The picture didn't work, but the rose has two stems, sort of V formation, one is dead except for the bottom part that has a leaf growing out of it, and the other is green with some small leafery at the top and nothing else. How can I attach the photo?

Is this a graft or cutting? If a graft then you may be in trouble as the stresses could cause an abscission at the graft union. If a cutting, then just remove the dead portion a couple of inches above the leaf junction (and apply t.l.c.) - it should recover but if not the other stem can be used to fill the shape over time.

Well it's definitely alive, but how well it is I'm not sure about. The green stem doesn't look like a sucker (they usually have tiny thorns, almost like fur!) so that side might be good. I'd cut the other side back to that node,just above the pair of thorns, making sure you cut it at a steep angle so it doesn't hold water.
I'd also check you've got decent drainage in that pot. Feed it and leave it be.
If you're after a floribunda or hybrid tea, be prepared to chuck it if that is a sucker.

It's not a sucker, they were both part of the plant when I got it. What do you think would happen if I cut the green stem down to a shorter length if there aren'y any obvious buds down it. Would it sprout some? Other roses have flowered already but this one doesn't have any sign of a flower bud around the leaves.

I might be a bit late for pruning. The brown stem looks to be dead so you can cut that back with no harm, it's just cosmetic really. My understanding (from watching my Dad) is that you prune in October, to prevent wind rock in winter, and March or April, to make it a better shape.

However, it's in such a poor state you trimming it may either kill or cure it, I suppose. I'd leave it, personally. What's lower down may still be living but looks very woody.
