Containers for making cider

The whole reason for the selfsufficientish website was to offer a place where anyone can ask, HOW DO I...? So who knows why it has taken us so long to have a HOW DO I? section, but here it is. So if you want to know how to do anything selfsufficientish then here is the place to ask.

Containers for making cider

Post: # 289407Post Weedo »

Hi

Thinking of trying cider making sometime next season. For fermenting containers, I can get used 12 litre water cooler bottles: they are clear, food grade PET (BPA free). Any issues with using these? They have no caps but I could get stoppers to fit.

I think they should be fine.

Yeah, they'd be fine to ferment in. You'd need to rig up some for of airlock for them (a piece of hose into a bucket of water would do the trick).
