Looking for seeds

Post: # 106676Post Brij »

Right, well as I mentioned on another thread, I'm moving into a new flat at the beginning of July, and I'm hoping to take the opportunity to do some indoor gardening. So I was wondering if anyone would be interested in trading some seeds.

The main catch is that I don't have much to offer in return! But I'm pretty handy at knitting, and have some (pure cotton... mmm) yarn stashed away (in a couple of different colour varieties), so I'm hoping I can persuade some of you good folks to accept some luxury socks (or a tea-pot cosy, gloves or a hat, or anything else that you can think of that can be knitted from 2 balls of yarn - I build up my yarn stash in pairs) in return, for say, about half of what I've listed (it takes days per pair of socks, I'm a good knitter, but I'm not fast!). If there's anyone that has just one or two of the types of seed that they'd be happy to swap, I'll gladly trade them for a smaller knitted item, maybe a soap-nut bag, mp3 player case, purse or something.

I'm looking for any of the following (just enough seeds to establish a plant or two, I don't need much):

Kale or cabbage, Cress, (any variety of) lettuce, (pepper- or lemongrass) mint, chives, (any kind of) basil, sage, micro-toms (or another variety that you think will grow reasonably well indoors), spinach and perhaps broccoli.

Or anything else you think would grow well indoors (very light flat) in pots... provided it's something that I like to eat of course

So yeah, I know it's a massive long shot, but if there's anywhere to ask, it's here! I'm also deliberately asking so massively in advance, because not only do I like to be organised, but I want to make sure I have plenty of time to create anything requested for the trade.

I have a couple of types of lettuce, basil & chives to offer from your list. What is that worth in the world of cotton knitted goods?

Hee, I've just noticed that it's both rodent-inspired usernames that have replied

Ratty, what would you like? I don't think a single sock would be very useful, but in my experience hats take very little time/effort to knit, so I'd gladly knock one up for you, or maybe a little baggie of some variety? It's up to you, really, but things with simple shapes like that are easier than things like socks, so for 3 types of seed it'd be well worth my while to do something like that.

Hi Brij

I just checked my seed box and I have the following available:

Lettuce: All Year Round from Thompson & Morgan

Spicy Mixed Salad Leaves (mix of mizuna, mibuna, Mustard Red Giant, Greek cress & green pak choi seeds) from Thompson & Morgan

Organic Chives from Suttons seeds

Organic Sweet Basil from Suttons seeds (pre-spaced seeds in a tape)

Organic Coriander: Janta from Suttons seeds (pre-spaced seeds in a tape)

Organic Parsley: Grune Perle from Suttons seeds (pre-spaced etc!)

Radish: Scarlet Globe from Mr Fothergills

Peppers: Hot Chilli Shake (mix of chillies mild to super hot) from Mr Fothergills

All are from this year, I've so far had success with the basil, radish, peppers all at 2 leaf stage.

If you let me know which you're interested in plus your address via PM then I'll get them sent out to you.

I was going to say a hat would be lovely for my son then I remembered he refuses to keep one on his head! So a hat or a little bag for me would be lovely. Many thanks.
