How to make a Moisturising Lotion
I StumbledUpon this link for making Moisturising Lotion, it's a very basic recipe that can be fancied up with some or all of the ingredients at the end of the article!
I'm going to have a go at this one when we finally get some money
http://www.wabisabibaby.com/blog/index. ... gredients/
Could be handy, especially in the winter months which can dry out your skin alot!

just a note.....if you buy emulsifying wax it can be either vegetable or petroleum based.

Re: How to make a Moisturising Lotion
why use a emulsifying wax? I grate small amount of beeswax just enough to make the lotion stiff...

Re: How to make a Moisturising Lotion
Do you use water in your recipe? The link seems to be for quite a light lotion that combines water and oil, hence the need for an emulsifying agent.....does beeswax do that too?
TBH I'd rather keep things simple these days and just the oil on it's own, but some people prefer a conventional lotion.

Re: How to make a Moisturising Lotion
I was going to use Beeswax myself as that's what I thought she meant by emulsifying wax.
When I make these things they will be all natural I don't want any nasty chemicals in there if I can avoid it otherwise I may as well just go out and buy the stuff
I'm making some for a gift too so just giving someone a bottle of oil might not be very pleasing hence the recipe I found :)

This explains it quite well, looks like beeswax might be tricky to use in this instance.

Re: How to make a Moisturising Lotion
I melt the following in a double boiler:
Beeswax
Coconut Oil
Shea butter
I mix it, let it cool a bit.
Then, I add Vit. E oil, sweet almond oil and sometimes essential oils.
More beeswax will make it stiffer.
If you want it goopy, use little beeswax. I pour it in jars and use it as a salve, cuticle cream, lip balm, for dry elbows and heals, etc.
I've given it to others for lip balm.
I usually just use coconut oil on my arms, legs, and back in the winter. Saves a lot of work making lotions. I know some who use olive oil.

Re: How to make a Moisturising Lotion
The emulsifying wax is to mix oil and water. Beeswax will be able to do the job only if it's a very small amount of water. If it's anywhere near approaching even half the total the beeswax can't cope and you'll get puddles of water in your blend.

Re: How to make a Moisturising Lotion
That's a pretty similar recipe to the one I use, and I found that to make the texture a bit nicer blitzing it with my old whiz stick was awesome! I don't use anywhere near as much beeswax though, gets really really thick if you do...I also use rosewater (the stuff you cook with ) instead of regular water, & if you were going to use the cream pretty speedily or keep it in the fridge you could even make up a herbal tea & use that in place of water.

Re: How to make a Moisturising Lotion
So, can one of you extraordinarily lovely people give me a recipe for a lotion that can be both unscented and suitable for babies and sensitive skin or flowery and fancy... pretty please

Re: How to make a Moisturising Lotion
SPS, the link you posted would work for plain. Just add a drop or two of essential oils to make it fancy. Or Vit. E oil, or sweet almond oil.
Or mix coconut and jojoba oil in with the olive oil. The three-ingredient recipe you posted is super. I'm going to try it this winter.
The link you posted had this one, as well. It's a more involved recipe, and would make a very nourishing lotion.
That's a great link! There's lots of good info, and many good links on that site. Thank you!

The Coconut, Jojoba and Olive Oil definitely sounds like a go-er to me might remove a few drops of the Olive Oil and substitute a few Vitamin E Capsules though and add some Lavender EO.LBR wrote:Or mix coconut and jojoba oil in with the olive oil.
