It seems you are now officially addicted to growing stuff. Great work for one day; take it easy, too much digging, especially if you aren't used to it, can really knacker your back.

I'm with Flo on the evictions though.

Don't fancy your clay soil, but I think it is the most fertile. We are on sandy soil so always need masses of manure etc. pbf.

There's nowt wrong with clay so long as you are prepared to compost, compost, compost annually. It's just rather more labour than other soils.

But by gum it grows stuff!

I love my clay! So much so that I shall try to choose the next place on clay.

South hampshire is so full of clay that we supplied the bricks for the Albert Hall! It grows good veg once it's got manure and compost in it!

Hi Paul,

I guess my plot is about 50 x 60 ft, I too haven't been able to dig due to rain for the last few weeks. I'm going to try and see what grows well next year, hopefully I will be able to rotate in the following years. The plot is south facing, so equally sunny all over, I'm going to try plenty of companion growing too!!!

Just wish the rain would do one :banghead: !

Thought I'd upload a few recent pics, haven't been able to get down as much as I'd like due to kiddies and work but it's slowly getting there!

That looks really organised , looks like you have reclaimed a lot .
I think it is sad if they take the plot away from the old boy, the other plots should be reclaimed and go first or he will have done all the hard work for someone else who might not even keep it up.
It must be amazing to know that your grandparents worked the same allotments..generational with your children joining in and "Helping". They love it but they do slow things down a bit, but time spent in the garden with my children hold special memories ...Enjoying it is the most important part and they possibly wont want to help forever, there might come a time when it wont be Cool to garden ..but it will hopefully return.
