weaving

Post: # 190928Post becks77 »

Hi All,
I have bought a second hand tabletop(so relatively) small 2 shaft loom, and really that'as far as I have got. I have a couple of books but they presume some knowledge and of course I have none.
I'd really love to get going with some of my homespun but need some pointers.Does anyone have any very simple step by step idiots guide to weaving please? either internet or books.
Many thanks
Becks

I just caught that on Iplayer today, wow it looks fab on the big looms, I just wanted to have a little go and see where it leads. They were so determined and just brilliant designs too, really inspirational.

Can't help much, I only weave using little cardboard or frame looms. However, could you look for a local Guild of weavers, spinners and dyers? I joined one to learn how to dye with natural dyes, that didn't happen but I'm now going to a nice old ladies house over Easter to learn how to use a spinning wheel! The people there tend to have practical hands on experience, they'd be great to learn from or could at least point you in the right direction.

Look online for your nearest Guild of Weavers Spinners and Dyers; go along and see how you get on, maybe join, or just find out about weaving lessons. They should also ahve various bits of equipment to hire out/loan too. Well worth joining if you have an interest in any of the fibre arts.

OT, I had never heard of the guild of spinners weavers and dyers. It sounds like a thrilling secret society that meets under the guise of fibre enthusiasm. I've been thinking of taking up spinning so I've just googled to see if there's one near me and there is! It meets literally 200 yards from my house! I might join. Back on topic, I can't help with the weaving but good luck becks77 (although I think they have weaving groups on Ravelry - they might have some pointers.)

It's the warping that's a total mystery to me - weaving seems to require learning a totally new language :dontknow: there's a yahoo group based in UK that's very helpful but I'm on the wrong computer to find the name
Best of luck Becks :hugish:
