Should I be concerned yet?

Post: # 198359Post theabsinthefairy »

In view of the fact that my other half and I are celebrating 10 years of marriage (albeit that I got the date wrong and it is actually our anniversary tomorrow and not today), my ever loving husband took me to the local scrap yard to find a gift. Appropriate as 10 years is supposed to be tin.

He had previously arranged to collect a table from some school surplus, but when I saw it I commandeered it for myself, as it is just the right height to be a pattern cutting table and has a lovely smooth laminate surface.

While we were there I found some old saucepans to use as feed pans for our expanding rabbit population, a metal bucket that we use for firewood storage, a waffle iron and a night potty with a lid in enamelled blue to match the water jug I have already.

The very nice scrapman smiled and gave me my bits of treasure for free as an anniversary gift.

So should I be concerned that we obviously spend so much time there that I get presents from the scrapman?

Or should I be more concerned that I find it completely normal that I would be going to the scrap yard to find an anniversary gift?

theres nothing to worry about there!

be thankful your lovely husband spent the day with you which is much, much more than most of my friends get ( and are lucky to get a box of chocs, petrol station flowers and a strained meal in the evening before passing out on the sofa snoring their heads off! )

and the scrap man giving you a gift? thats just lovely human nature at its best and id be smiling all day :-D

I have been happily installing my new table in my studio and moving the furniture around to make it all fit in there.

I suppose I should be grateful we can spend the afternoon together without wanting to kill each other after ten years!

No nothing to worry about I think its really romantic.

I agree with Crowsashes comments about people not wanting to spend hardly any time with their partners and find it sad.

Dave and I have been married for 28 years and for the past 10 or so have worked together and still never tire of each others company.

Rejoice in the anniversary and the fact that them scrap man (dump master?) is not so wrapped up in red tape that you cant take anything away from the heaps!

Happy Anniversary!
I think it's wonderful that you have such a great resource nearby, and have managed to build such a nice rapport with the Scrapman that he gives you pressies!
I agree with the other comments, that true romance is all about spending real quality time together, and it's utterly brilliant that your other half shares and indulges your passion for previously loved items of usefulness and beauty! Definitely better than the garage forecourt wilters!
I wish you both many more very scrappy ...er, happy and loving years together!
We all have two gifts we should try to use as much as possible - imagination and humour.
Imagination compensates us for what we are not.
A sense of humour consoles us for what we are.
And wisdom tells us not to worry about it!

Happy anniversary... I think it's sweet! And since it's something that makes you happy far better that than he went out and bought something completely mindless and expensive!! But did you find anything tin?
