Hello from Swindon, Wiltshire

Post: # 209247Post Marcus »

Hello fellow foragers...Marcus here....Dont know if theres anyone else on this site from Swindon?......I dont mind admitting i live in swindon...im not scared! (few glasses of sloe gin & ill admit anything!)
Been dabbling with wild food for a few years, but im no expert (still learning) but I do enjoy it...i dont know why but things just taste better when they are free & homemade!
I've joined to learn more about finding the best places to look around swindon & perhaps some new recipes.
At the moment ive got sloe's, haws, blackberrys & rosehips in the freezer, ive found a pear tree recently which made a lovley pear crumble & I might have a go at perry too (if anyone has any tips?)
Im planning on getting some elderberries before they go over (which isnt long) & some crab apples to make jelly
Ive also got a hive of bees & im hoping to get some orange mead going soon.....Oh and of course...sloe gin & vodka.
I'd like to hear anyones opion on haw jelly ? never tried it before, some say its horrible & not worth the effort, others say its a bit like marmalade which i like !.
Well thats me (without going into my life history, which i wouldnt want to bore you all with anyway) Nice to be here to be here.......NICE...

Hi Marcus! Welcome to the forum. I am sure if you type Haws, in the search box, you will find some more info about those. I will do that myself, as I know nothing about them!

Hi there and welcome
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!
