First attempt at smoking... success
First attempt at smoking... success
Got given a 4lb rainbow on Sunday, so filleted and brined it overnight,
knocked up a smoking box and rigged it up to my bbq, add some damp oak shavings and smoke from 11.30 till erm bedtime.
End result, very nice!

That's brilliant - I'd wondered how to go about cold smoking without giving over half my garden. Enjoy you kippers, you'll have earned them.

Brilliant idea
I just happen to have one of those BBQ's...
and we have plenty of leftover bits and pieces of flexible duct at my work.
How was the fish?

Oh well done you!
I have always wanted to smoke my own fish!
I have often wanted to try it with an old biscuit tin etc, but the smell in the house would worry me

Re: First attempt at smoking... success
I'd been wanting to build a smoker for ages, literally years. I looked at loads of designs on the web etc.
deliberating on what to build, in the end the box was knocked up from offcuts of ply, and the rest i found lying around in the boatyard where I work. It only took about an hour to build in the end. I can't recommend enough trying it.
It did, and still does, taste chuffin' good. Definitely something i'll be doing regularly. I plan to have a go at bacon and pancetta soon. Should be going night fishing tomorrow too. Hopefully I'll catch something to smoke!

Just be thankful there's quite a bit of sea between me and that tasty-looking morsel.
