how to sow chives?

how do I sow chives?
usually one seed does one plant with vegetables etc.
is this the same for chives? or do I need to sprinkle seeds on the surface and one seed is one leaf of chives?

Hi Berti,
Chuck them in a pot and sprinkle lightly with good compost, they do come back year after year least they do in my pots, ust keep cutting them and using them....enjoy

Yes Berti, you just need to sprinkle a thin layer of seeds then cover with a little compost.

Yeah, bit of compost, thin layer of seeds, thin layer of more compost, and water gently. they'll come up when they come up, but be careful, in the right environment they really grow. :) Eventually I think you have to split them by root division, and harvest them regularly to encourage more growth.

my chives never seem to germinate. do they have special requirements to germinate or do they just take longer and I'm not patient enough?

i chucked in a bunch of old seeds in this big pot sitting in a plastic donkey.. and OMG... they are MASSIVE now... got the little flower heads about to open.... i love chives.. so easy to grow.... i know put them in all my food... lol..

I've done mine in modules, about 3 seeds per plug. Just starting to germinate after a couple of weeks. I'm planning on using them as a border amongst my strawberries.
