Hello!
Are there any fruit trees/bushes that can be kept in pots?
We're renting at the moment and not sure how long we'll be here (been saying that for over 2 yrs now) so I don't want to plant anything permanently (plus the ground is just clay).
My Mum has just got herself a couple of blackcurrant bushes and I have a touch of the green eyed monster. I only have strawbs and they are doing nothing
Thank you

Yeah, they should be ok if you give them the right sized pot and make sure they're ok for food and water. I've got two cherry trees, a blueberry and two peaches in pots. My mate has an entire mobile orchard of trees especially suited to containers as she's in the same situation as you. I can ask her for details if you want.

More or less anything can be grown in pots. If you get dwarf trees, you can even have top fruit, like pears, apples and plums/cherries. I have two vines in pots, gooseberries and currants, as well as the usual strawbs. Will be getting trees when the autumn comes, unless I can find some pot grown ones sooner. Like you, I am not planning on staying here forever. The plants (trees, not bushes) will be potted into 10 ltr tubs and the tubs sunk into the ground, then when we go, they will come up easily and can go with us.

blueberries do better in pots.. here at least, cos they need acid soil, easier to give them the right conditions.
i have hanging baskets of strawberries too

Have a look at construction sites, old cement tubs are great for small fruit trees.Clarry wrote:Cheers for the replies.

Clarry I have tried many dwarf fruit trees in pots, but I would have to say that they need BIG pots and LOTS of water to do well, so if you don't mind watering them every day in dry spells then its fine, but otherwise they will never be as productive as if they are in the ground.
