How much?!!!
I thought my local farm shop had added my bill incorrectly this afternoon but no, a sack of spuds is £8.50 and set to rise further. (£5.50 last year) The owner said he should really be charging £10 now!

Re: How much?!!!
So, back of a fag packet, 25kg per sack is 40 sacks per tonne. £8.50 per sack equals £340 per tonne bulk retail -vs- £200 farm gate price, £140 per tonne gross margin. But the previous year £5.50 per sack equals £220 bulk retail -vs- £150 farm gate, £70 margin. Still, I suppose they're selling fewer tonnes this year.marshlander wrote:Approx. yes 25 Kg nowadays.merlin wrote:A sack of spuds, is that 56lbs?

Apparently the harvest across NW Europe is 15% lower this year and potato demand is rising as a result of more people cooking at home due to budgetary problems.

Re: How much?!!!
Spuds from the shop here are the equivalent of about £.1.90 for 25 Kilos, at the moment they are mostly from Bulgaria, and some from Germany, then it goes on to spuds from Egypt. I usually have about enough from the garden, since it is just me and my partner. She is Bulgarian, so it's bread with everything with her, can't even get her on the yummy roast tattys!
