If you own an allotment or have a veg patch, why?
If you own an allotment or have a veg patch, why?
And what do you get out of it besides food hopefully!?

I regard food growing as a small declaration of independence and a form of homage to God / Nature (delete as your taste suits) plus I can grow stuff that I cannot easily buy (curious varieties of tomato and so forth).
Welcome, by the way.

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

Unfortunately Mr Burkeiy is a Chinese spammer, so we'll never know why he asked the question.

No, I have 7 sheds including a garage that hasn't seen a car inside it for some time, so I think a satisfaction of sheds.Skippy wrote:I don't know wether there is a collective noun for sheds as I have , er, several...... an embarassement of sheds perhaps?boboff wrote:So I can have a shed.

for the record I've got -
6 used for storage,
1 currently used for storage that is planned long term to be a chicken shed,
1 workshop,
1playhouse for my daughter,
1 greenhouse with glass and wood ready for a second,
1 other shed in bits with plans to erect it,
and just to add the garage is used to store stuff and we also have an old post office van that hasn't moved for several years so is currently used for storage so pretty much a glorified shed

It's not just you chaps that like sheds, us girls do too! I have four and would love more! pbf.
Re: If you own an allotment or have a veg patch, why?
I have a 16' caravan that started to leak, so I built a shed around it. It's where my ham radio gear is set up and has everything a small house would have.... flush loo, heating, kettle, fridge, easy chair, computer, etc.
Other "sheds", garage which is really a workshop, block built shed which is a chicken house one end and a sink unit with H&C running water at the other end (where I wash my flower pots), a potting shed between the chicken house and the large greenhouse, another shed behind the potting shed which is full of clutter, a "tin" shed where I keep the mower and garden tools, a wood shed, 2 polytunnels and a small greenhouse.
Soon there will be a barn to add to those, cos I'm a happy chappy that has just been given about 50 odd 16 foot lengths of 6" x 2" second hand timber.
I can hide for a considerable time when I want to.

Re: If you own an allotment or have a veg patch, why?
I love a shed off. I have a potting shed, then we have a barn, which had been split into 4 pods, it also has a garden shed in it, then I have a byre with chicken house one end, ducks the other, pigs in the middle and a small pod for my tools and feed, then we have a lorry body which is shelved out just like a shed and a mobile home which we were going to turn into a shed but have now decided to just strip it all out and recycle it into its component parts. In fact, where we are in Ireland, everyone has a 'shed' which is truth is a barn and if you say garden shed no-one knows what you are talking about, so only man sized sheds here, so Mr chinese spam man what did you start, bet you're scared now aren't yer
