well, you could try Kylie for Barbara, she has certain obvious similar assets - the bloke from the Pimms advert as Tom, Martin Clunes as Jerry, and Dawn French (or Jane Horrocks) as Margot.......... ![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

or on further thought, you could have Clunes as tom, and the Pimms bloke as Gerry- might work better! ![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)

I'd like to see a more updated version. So instead of Margot and Jerry, the terribly conventional posh couple, I'd like to see perhaps neighbours who are really into designer labels, brands, plasma TVs and all the conspicuous consumption. They'd be a good contrast to the family who are trying to be self-sufficient.
And I'd like to see kids in the new series. Maybe the neighbours have kids who are just as into having the right kinds of trainers and ipods, and the SS family have kids who moan to their parents about the sacrifices they have to make, but then defend their parents to the neighbours kids.
It would be more like My Family or 2.4 Children with lots of different alliances - the Self Sufficient family v the Conspicuous Consumption family, all the kids v all the adults, both the dads facing off, both the mums in competition, all the females v all the males, everyone pulling together against a common foe (e.g. a proposed motorway to be built through their neighbourhood) and lots of other permutations for possible storylines.
But I like the way Good Life had them all friends with each other really, and trying hard to udnerstand each others' points of view, even when there was conflict. So I'd like to see that continue.
