Following on from the A-Z Bands - what are you into?

Post: # 60232Post the.fee.fairy »

This question came up a long while ago, and it was really interesting to see what people listen to - i found a few new bands that i liked through people on here.

So...what's on your Music player?

This week we have mostly been listening to Madeline Peyroux. But musical taste in this house has a very wide range!! My son is into David Bowie, John Lee Hooker and Johnny Lang - not bad for a 12 year old! My daughter loves HIM and Chris spent most of yesterday singing "If it wasne for yer wellies (Billy Connolly!!)
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

I love old skool rave as I was there 'aving it! I love hiphop, this is a new thing. Im heavily into things like The Cure, The Smiths, Siouxsie as I spent my teens as a Goth. I love motown from my Mum and people like Rod Steward from my Dad. On my CD player at the moment is 50Cent and in the car is Moloko

She seems to be growing into a bit of a goth - which I approve of - at least they cover up and don't seem to wear teeny mini skirts and crop tops!! lol - Oh dear I sound so old fashioned!

In my stereo today.....Toots and the Maytals, Paolo Comte, Johnny Cash at San Quentin, Buena Vista Social Club, compilation of old Stones stuff and the Magic Numbers.

Always looking for recommendations though....living up a mountain can have it´s cultural downsides!

Varies greatly - depends on my mood, really. Sad git that I am, I tend to believe that most music released after 1984 is crap. On my hard drive, I've a real mixture; Bob Marley, UB40, Toots & the Maytals, Aswad, Al Green, The Isley Bros, Madness, Bruce Springsteen, Simple Minds, INXS, Dire Straits, Chris Rea, an obscene amount of Image 1980s electronic stuff, The Beach Boys (well it is summer), The Beautiful South and The Rolling Stones.

Chili I so agree with you, and your muscal tastes (apart from the electronic stuff though!).

I really like Motown but I never play any music. Sometimes I put English radio on through the TV when I am cooking though.

I have absolutely no idea who anybody is these days music wise at all. For the last 20 or so years whenever I've looked at the top 20 on TOTP (a rare occasion) I have said "Who?" to every one of them.

I like:
Rammstein, System of a Down, Metallica, Drowning Pool, Reel Big Fish, Nirvana, Feeder, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, Hard-Fi, Razorlight, Nine Inch Nails, Ill Nino, Orson, LostProphets, Fall Out Boy, Hatebreed, My Chemical Romance, The Kooks, The Prodigy

But I also like Corinne Bailey Rae, Jack Johnson, Michael Buble, Paul Anka, any light jazz, swing, big band

Bit of a mixed bag really!

Lots of stuff, but my two most recent purchases and are cracking are

Amy Winehouse lastest album ( I wasn't convinced by her, thought she was another one of the Nora/Katie clones) until I heard the song "Back to Black" which is supurb 60's feel. She is one bad girl.

Soulsavers latest album. This is a NE UK band who have got Mark Lanegan to do 8 out of 11 vocals for them. I only found out about them because I'm a big Lanegan fan (Screemingtree's,solo,Mark Lanegan Band, last years Mercury Music nominee with Isabell Campbell.) great album.

Haven't heard the lastest White Stripes album but that's likely to be next

The last CD I bought was Blind Melon, which was just before my eledest children were born... so my music taste stops nearly 10 years ago!

Still like that CD, also like The Clash, Alice in Chains, Led Zeppelin, and The Cruel Sea. Secretly I also like Metallica and Black Sabbath too.

Was talking to a friend about this a couple of days ago, and realised a fair proportion of the bands I like have had someone die in them - I'm thinking I'm a bit of a curse!!
