Cork bung in a demijohn

One of my newly acquired demijohns’ has a cork bung inside it that’s been pushed right in. I’m going to have a go at getting it out tomorrow. Any suggestion? I’m thinking a wire coat hanger at the moment.

the ol tea towel trick? seen it done with wine bottles... might work on demijohn?

shove a tea towel in, tip demijohn upside down so cork lands on teatowel, drag teatowel out, cork gets entangled and comes out too.....
well it might work...

That’s an idea. Reminds me of something I saw once involving a bit of string with a knot in it. Same principle.

I would go for a long knife and just chop it up, if it has gone in once, it can again, so no point saving the cork

I managed to do it with a bit of string.
I saw this done with a bottle of wine in a pub once under the heading of “I bet you a pint I can open this with only a bit of string”

• With your finger, push the cork through the neck into the bottle.
  
  Tie a good big knot in one end of your string and lower into bottle past cork.
  
  Jiggle bottle (or turn upside down if there’s no liquid in it) until the cork is resting at the bottom of the neck.
  
  Carefully pull on the other end of the string. The knot gets caught behind the cork and out it comes!

It was a manky old cork so I've just got rid of it. Chopping it up was plan B!
