Hello from Germany

Post: # 81718Post Mainer in Exile »

I've been lurking here for a month or so and thought it's about time I come out of the bushes, as it were, and introduce myself.

I'm an American living in Germany with my wife and kids. I've always had a bit of a drive to make as much as possible, rather than buying, and doing it myself. I am trying to become more self sufficient because of a frustration I have with the current system and the desire to have fresher, healthier food for the table.

I currently keep hens for eggs, maintain a carp pond, have a few fruit trees, and two vegetable gardens. My next project will be to raise some rabbits for meat.

Welcome, good to see you.

You say you maintain a carp pond. How wonderful! Do you have many fish in there? I've just got some recipies for carp and when I've got my own land (not an allotment) I know who to ask for advice.

The carp are pretty easy to keep so far. I only keep as many as the pond can support naturally, without extra feeding.

I do miss the sea, very much - hence the "in exile" in my screen name.
