BTW AVAST is NOT a BIG FAIL! Did YOU John Headstrong change your updating so is not on time? I just receiver "Fees_2008-2009.doc.exe" and AVAST warned me before it was downloaded into my computer and I deleted it. Check out this link and you will see that AVAST WILL detect it - http://virscan.org/report/b006cf47370d4 ... e859e.html

That's rather an abrupt and rude post for your first!

I've not tried AVAST but Kaspersky dealt with that one for me! Kaspersky isn't a freebie though and I only bought it when AVG appeared to be moving over to paid subs only and the Norton av that we get for free via BT was causing huge problems for my computer.

Can I add Songbird to the list?

It's to iTunes (Version 8 was the final straw for me!) what Firefox is to IE.

Just installed it, and looking forward to goving it a whirl tonight.

how inter-compatible is openoffice? can i for instance open a word 2000 doc on it? will openoffice docs read on word too? cos i have word on one computer and am thinking of putting openoffice opn the laptop. i have limited funds and even more limited memory space!!
laptop came with microsoft works, which i will never use, and starsuite which i have never heard of and takes up nearly 1gb of my 12gb hard drive!!!

You can open .doc (word) files in open office but you can't open .odt (open office) files in word. Open office, however, lets you save as .doc so as long as you remember it's fine.

ta foir that.

oh, and avast was a total bust for me too. had it on the laptop, laptop complained, cried and generally got mightily pissed off so I've got AVGfree on the laptop as well as the desktop.

I have a hardware firewall on the router, and also use software firewalls on both computers.

was finding it too hard to download on the laptop, even using a mirror. done it on desktop, shoved it onto a usb stick and it'll be on the lappy in no time.

i also freed up 1gb of lappy hard drive space by removing starsuite, microsoft live applications and works.

I know many many people with peg-legs and parrots who get me things for a piece of eight.

Isn't this akin to being selfsufficientish with food by just stealing it from a shop?
