The dishwasher tablet sounds interesting. The problem is not shifting burnt on rice, but that I have carbonised the base of the pan. DH says he'll have a go with the wire brush fitting of his drill. Fortunately it's the base of a steamer so although I do quite often use it as a pan in its own right, for which it is designed and perfectly capable (or was!), I can at least continue to use it as a steamer.

yep, I'll 2nd that - I used tommy k on stainless steel pans years ago that I thought were well and truly 'knackered'. I suspect its the vinegar and sugar in them that does the hard work.Thomzo wrote:Brown sauce. Sounds stupid but leave it in the pan for a couple of days. It really does work.

DH sorted it out with Astonish in the end, the stuff just came straight off. I'm an Astonish convert now.
