Re: Neighbours grrrrrrrrrrr
I'm not sure that your postman should be handing your post over to anyone else!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Re: Neighbours grrrrrrrrrrr
Wonder if we could get Porthole Pete and Groundhog Day together? Sounds like they'd make the ideal partnership
They'd obviously have to live next door tyo you though PBF
(As for leavin your mail with others...suppose it depends where you live?? I cant say mines ever left me post with anyone, but I do get jokey notes written on the envelopes. Stuff like 'what you bought now?' and 'these crickets have made a right racket in the back of me van'

I agree with Milims - the postie shouldn't be handing over your post to anyone but you - unless it's a parcel & they leave you a note, of course!
Our postie here will try the doors to see if the house is open & will leave anything in the kitchen if I'm not around - my daughter's postie leaves hers in her car on the drive, or inside the back room on the windowsill where she leaves the windows open for the cats!
Good job we live in the country, huh?

Not bloomin likely Windy!!!. We live in the country and are miles from a sorting office so the postman leaves stuff all over the place, if the neighbour doesn't get there first. I love the idea of Porthole Pete, it might make me feel better about him!! pbf

Re: Neighbours grrrrrrrrrrr
OK, my OH is a postman! He said your postie should NOT be handing the mail over to a neighbour unless YOU have written to the sorting office to request it is. HOWEVER, if it's been the same postie on that walk for years, they will know everyone and who lives where, so they might hand it over to a neighbour (very helpful if it's something you've been waiting for and needs a signature but you're out). They shouldn't do that, and can get into trouble for it. If it's a nuisance, please talk to the postie first and just say that you don't have the time for the long chats it entails and can you please have your mail through your door. They can always say the office is coming down hard on that sort of thing and they're not allowed any more. The postie might think he's doing you a favour.

Oh you guys have made me laugh - with relief! Its not just us who have these problems1 I found my neighbour spraying weedkiller through our fence ( and its not that badly weedy!) - I was fizzing - I have two cairn terriers who could easily have been poisoned! They got revenge for themselves though - the dogs tunnelled under the fence and uprooted a couple of sweet peas on the other side in the process.
- sorry I am a bit wicked.

we have a neighbour from hell and sympathise completely, so far we have had the police called and the planning officer, she has stabbed me with a pair of secators and we seem to live walking on eggshells hoping that she wont have another one of her toys out of pram episodes

Jeez Zaf!!! Groundhog Days not that bad. She wouldnt stab me with secateurs...would probably use the handle end anyway
(although I have fantasised about disembowelling her with a claw hoe

Re: Neighbours grrrrrrrrrrr
Thanks for all the advice about the post. We all know Porthole Pete shouldn't be doing it but we have all known each other a long time, and both my son and daughter used to be post people. Also if I'm honest about it, he saves us trips into the sorting office, so we should be grateful - but we're not!!!! At least we haven't been on the sharp end of his secateurs! pbf.

I have a confession to make....I do enjoy windin her up
When I put up a tubular steel pole to hang some bird feeders on for some reason she got the impression it was for a wind turbine
It was round the village in 20 seconds flat and I could hear the typewriters goin at the Parish Council

Have you tried nude sun bathing? I've twice lived next door to people who used to sun bathe nude in their gardens—despite the sparce to non-existent screening.
And I won't even detail what the gay couple I used to live next door got up to in their garden. Don't think straightforward. Oh, and often with friends...

Re: Neighbours grrrrrrrrrrr
I am so lucky with my neighbours. I have adopted the couple on one side as my surrogate parents and the guy on the other side has just cut the hedge between us beautifully. The houses opposite mine and further down my side have all got great people in them and I always enjoy stopping for a chat when I see them.
It's odd but living on a main road, I know my neighbours far better than I did when I lived in a cul-de-sac.
Cheers

Our postie is a very helpful chap, however this back fired once when granny sent the boy a toy for hallowean, it was a 99p bat from the shop that ca't be named (vordertesco) well bless her she didn't put enough postage on it, and it was £1.80 extra to pay, and as we knew what it was we didn't pick it up. He decided to pay this out of his own money and deliver it to us! We felt mean, but begrudged paying it to him!

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.
