I still do and am terrified of the phone! Why am I so understanding of other people trying to learn my language and speak slowly and clearly for them, but nobody does it for me in French - even when you ask them to!

It is difficult - when I lived in Germany and <whispers>sold tupperware to the british/american community after a few difficult starts we agreed that although face to face we would speak in a mixture, on the phone my manager would speak in english and I would speak in german, it was the easiest way for both of us as we'd both speak slow enough for the other to understand - and it helped us both to practise too.

Do you mind if i ask where you got your qualification from? I'm going to do an online TEFL course next year (i don't think i'll really be able to learnt o teach English in a Chinese classroom...) to go with my experience so that i can get a paid job in India at some point.

I'm thinking of going with i-i. How do you weed out the wrong companies?

I thought you were teaching English in a Chinese classroom Fee? I asked you before but you didn't notice the question how you managed to get a job doing that, because as far as I was aware you didn't have a teaching background. Still unsure as to how/why it came about!

TO get the job here, i only needed to have a degree (it seems that it doesn't matter what the degree is in, as long as you've graduated, its all ok!). I applied through an agency in the UK.

I'd advise anyone coming to China to have a look at some online Chinese websites, like cqexpat.com, or the Beijinger and ask around there. The agency i came with basically took the registration fee, fixed me with one university and then b*ggered off and left me to work out visas and stuff. If you get in touch with people who are already here, then you will know whether the place is good/real and save a registration fee!!

Who are i-i? I was thinking of the 100-hour diploma with the International TEFL Corporation...
