My mum made something like that back in the 1960s!

I wholeheartedly agree, I'm addicted!Mrs Moustoir wrote:So did mine! And I had a groovy waistcoat made out of similar squares too.Millymollymandy wrote:Fab, Mrs M, I love the colours!![]()
My mum made something like that back in the 1960s!It obviously made an impact as I'm a granny squares addict now. SPS will probably agree with me later - you get hooked ('scuse the pun) on making them. I think it is because you can finish something - although weeny - in a few minutes...
I went through Ravelry the other night looking at all the wonderful things made from granny squares and so I now have several projects lined up for later.
I am actually preferring it to knitting as you get an almost instant gratification out of crochet which you don't get with knitting... or I don't get because I'm the worlds slowest knitter lol
Another 2 squares down, did one last night while watching "Father Goose"
I want to make these next: http://www.flickr.com/photos/12544443@N ... 586217861/

Re: I've started a blanket...
A quick update for those who are interested!
I'm getting through these squares quicker than I thought but still a long way to go: http://www.flickr.com/photos/skyblue1971/4210350894/
My lovely OH surprised me a couple of days ago by letting me go buy some new yarn and some brand new crochet needles as we were passing the local yarn shop. It was great, I bought some Lavender, Peach and a kind of Aqua colour to add to the Pink, Yellow and Pale blue I already had and a couple of sizes of crochet hooks as I had been using hand-me-downs from my Mother in Law and I could only get on with the bone one but needed a better version.
The woman in the shop was brilliant and helped me out with a bit of knowledge about yarn thicknesses as I was totally bemused by Double Knit, Aran, Sports Weight and Chunky etc.
My parents have given me some cash for Christmas so I'm going to go and buy some more hook sizes and yarn to finish the blanket and make myself a jacket... I think I'm addicted!
The nice thing is, I found a Cornish group on Ravelry and one lady lives just down the road from my new place and told me about the yarn shop in St Just (about 5 minutes away) and that they have a monthly meet-up at the shop so I will be heading on down there once I have settled in *excited*

Re: I've started a blanket...
that sounds pretty cool, ive just had a refund from the electric company AND the payment was in my account in 3 days, so im off to buy some new yarn and im going to treat my self to some kureyon ( its multi coloured with longer runs so you get bigger blocks of the same colour) and crochet myself a hat.
working on this blanket at the moment.

but im using aran yarn in various colours to do it as the yarn was a clearance lot and saved me a fair few pounds!

Re: I've started a blanket...
WOW that blanket is beautiful!!!
After I've done this easy one (despite the size) I am going to settle down and learn all the stitches and really learn properly instead of just getting by doing very easy things!
Thanks snapdragon but I had some plastic ones and I kept snapping them so to save my OH getting one in the eye as it flies off I'm safer with metal ones I think
I do have some teeny tiny .50mm metal ones but I don't think I have the eyesight to use thread that small to use them, you can hardly see the hook

i thought it would be too but its actually quite easy as its just a repetitive short row pattern worked in smaller blocks.i did take 3 attempts to understand the pattern though and to get my head around the technique! ill try and get a photo up of the work in progress!

Re: I've started a blanket...
i saw somebody the other day wearing a skirt like that but it was one larger granny square and more complimentary colours! dark brown, purple and black i think with a few others the skirt actually looked really cool!
that dress is a bit much though, would have made a better blanket!

I did a bit more of my Blue and White Blanket tonight, hopefully the Lavender yarn will arrive tomorrow so I should be able to complete the HUUUUGGGEEE blanket in the next couple of days
