Re: cut down supermarket trips ?
Do you know, I would miss my trip to the local hell-hole. We go around once every 10 days or so; but there are 4 of us (two small ones) and we have neither storage space nor a big freezer to go much longer than that.
I do have an insatiable appetite for nosing in other people's trolleys, it's so entertaining seeing what sort of rubbish everyone else buys, heehee.
Lack of social life? Me? Never..........

I took my dog to play frisbee. She was useless. I think I need a flatter dog.

It's a fascinating hobby; and a specialist subject I hope to one day do on Mastermind!

I eat tons of fruit so I HAVE to go to the supermarket every 10 days or so. Also in winter we need salad veg - no I'm not putting curly kale in my sarnies!

Here you go MMM - deeeeeelicious
Kale Sandwich
3 large Whole kale leaves, washed and trimmed - remove stem if tough
Dash lemon juice
Dash garlic powder
2 tablespoon Dijon or spicy brown mustard
1 Whole wheat pita bread
Steam the kale for 2 minutes and drain off any liquid.
Do not chop--keep the leaves in large pieces.
Sprinkle with lemon juice and garlic powder and chill.
When ready to serve, cut the pita bread in half, spread with mustard, and then stuff with the cold seasoned kale.

Re: cut down supermarket trips ?
We are lucky enough to have an online grocery store that delivers locally produced/sourced food & drinks (inc coffee and wine!). Thats where we buy all our meat, veg, fruit, milk, yoghurts etc. We have hens so have all our own eggs. I'm friendly with a lady who owns a whole food store selling suma, so I order all my tins and dry goods like beans & lentils etc in bulk from her, then just pick it up on my way to work (I work just down the street) I order flour on line in bulk from Doves - 25kg sack of bread flour at a time! After that I go to the chinese supermarket/wholesalers for things like olive oil, bulk sugar etc. I make all our jam, chutney, bread & cake etc. I do go to the supermarket occasionally - usually because my mum or someone wants to go, but I rarely make a specific trip and it's certainly not regular. The good thing is I tend to have everything in so that I can make what ever I want when I want - the down side is we need a lot of storage space!

I used to enjoy the 10 items or less queue - there was always at least one (presumably single) bloke with several bags of oven chips, a few tins of baked beans, a dozen eggs and a bottle of whisky
They always looked thin and pasty - wonder why?
OH thought it looked like a balanced diet, with all the major food groups
He doesn't cook much

We store the flour in one of those brewing barrels with a sealing lid - means that we can't brew any wine tho! lol

Re: cut down supermarket trips ?
I live in very rural ireland and try to visit the big town as seldom as I can although I am lucky and have a rural bus that passes the end of my little road. In ireland if you are on disability benefit< have rheumatoid athritis> you get free travel on buses and trains throughout ireland and the north. That said my trusty shopping trolley wont hold a lot! I grow lots of my veg and soft fruit using deep beds set up for me by a very kind visiting relative and am on my own most of the time so dont need vast quantities! seem to buy more dog cat pony and hens food then my own! these can be delivered from ncf<farmers co op> if you pay their prices! I quite like to go to tescos or dunnes and get the marked down bargains..and it makes for variety.you never know what you may get! nd I do go to lidls! when my 4 kids were home I always made bread and cakes but now I would only eat them all myself and get fat!
soda bread is the main here but it doesnt keep or freeze well.think I may try a sprout sandwich in the winter!
