What chickens lay your dark brown eggs Sue?

Hi there - I keep the traditional English Cuckoo Marans, not all of this breed lay such dark eggs but I have been working on my strain for quite a few years now improving both the colour of the eggs and the quanity and size of the eggs they lay. The eggs in my avatar are some they laid last spring, and although not every egg is as dark as those, but they have laid some even darker

They are nice-natured big friendly birds, and they are a dual purpose bird, so excess cockerels make excellent birds for the pot if you are so inclined

I'd be sorely tested if I didn't live in Italy. Gorgeous birds and you'd never need to tint and egg for Easter ever again .

(Actually, just googled, and they say their fragrance was originally a blend of 'Turkish Rose, Lavender, Cumin and Precious Amber', I can see the cumin but I'm not sure about the rest, anyway shows you how much I know! ;-) ).

Maybe it was because I grew up with it, but I've always thought that was just what soap smelt like!

I can't stand the fact that it has a little label on it

I can't stand labels either and peel them off whenever I can. When I was quite young I once carefully peeled the label of the soap, and Mum had to explain to me that you stand the soap on the label to keep it from going soggy.
