My French gardening mag has the lunar month schedule in it. Trouble is, it may be that the day you are supposed to be doing things with your root veg (or whatever) it is over 30C, or the day you must be planting lettuce you happen to have to go to work/go out somewhere, so how do you get round that one then?

I won't say its a load of cobblers because there must be something in it - but I get a good harvest from certain things (most things) and I don't follow this stuff at all.

I mean, imagine if I had planted my courgettes on the correct day of the lunar thingamijig? I might have doubled my harvest!

Maybe we should try planting them on the most wrong day, to see if it moderates the inevitable glut.

Ha! Glut? I wish! I have the total opposite of glut. I'm gutted.

The total opposite of glut? Would that be a "tulg"? I know what you mean. I have a tulg of sorrel, also tulgs of land cress and broccoli.

It could well be a tulg. I'm not up on the Latin names for things

I picked three pea pods today. Three.

That must have been at least two peas for each member of your family! What more do you want? About the size of the portions of veg they give you in our canteen... (Must admit, used to give - I haven't eaten there for ages, so maybe they've improved.)

So far I've picked one French bean - but there are a few more coming up. Broad beans I only had half a portion, and that was from two sowings, one in November, and the next one in spring. And last year I had a goodish harvest, from just one sowing...

Oh, well ,that makes me feel better Ina. I was despariing. Mind you, I am going to be more composty next year with my soil and also give it a good dose of both chicken poo and sand.

Tell you what though - those peas as the sweetest I've ever tasted
