We have been given some field mushrooms by a french bloke.
Actually he didn't give them direct to us - he is a roofer and he gave them to a friend of mine as a sort of apology for fitting a skylight crookedly whilst drunk one morning.
We love his name - Monsieur Bastard! (quite common name round here!)
Just hope he wasn't drunk when he picked the mushrooms! Oh fun and games in France!

Sorry missed this thread, so yeah pencil in the weekend of 23rd Sept for a bit of a forray and wild food hunt. If most things are early this year we might get some chestnuts, wild mushroom and roasted chestnut risotto on the menu that evening me thinks. Hope it's not forcast rain.

I'm between Sherborne and Sturminster Newton; can travel a bit with my trusty chauffeur, though. Would be interested, as long as it's a weekend. Good idea.

I'd missed this thread (thanks for the tip off Hedgie!) We would love to come-a-foraging. The 23rd is a good day for us as OH is on every weekend in Sept and that w/end its the Sunday he has to work. I'd be willing to travel over to your neck of the woods Dorchester/Sherbourne so if you know anywhere good around there we'd meet you there. Pink carnation standing by..........

Ooh, memories of pagan gatherings in times gone by. I said unto one chap, how will I know you? And verily he did say unto me, oh you'll know me all right. And lo, he was quite correct. And he was as odd as he did appear.
Anyone know anyone else we should be talking to about coming to this?

Oh boo. This is just the kind of thing I have been looking for buuut I have a baby due like, now- so travelling too far out of Bristol will prob be a no no

If everyone draws a 35 mile radius on a map then we can see where overlaps and has decent train links - how does that sound?

misscorinthian, why don't you organise one in bristol? Andy and Dave and Bristolbloke and goodness knows how many others are up there, and there'll be mushrooms galore for weeks yet.

Sounds great in theory!
If only a.)I were the organisational "type"- I really wouldn't know where to start, and b.)It wasn't for the aforementioned baby situation- I'm not really able to plan a whole lot right now. I can however, tentatively arrange to attend someone else's organised event but with the realisation that I may well not make it on the day

Err...I best go find a map then. I am in Whitchurch/Hengrove, Bristol by the way, if that helps at all?

Keeping it in Bristol would certainly make it easier but saying that I'm quite happy to jump on a train or bus somewhere. I'll keep an eye on this thread and see how many takers we've got for the Bristol area by next weekend (16th).
