It is my experience that any forum can "go up in flames", however nice, friendly or cuddly. They used to have some vicious flame wars over in rec.pets.cats, and they can get nasty over at rec.crafts.textiles.quilting. The least flamey group I know is uk.rec.sheds but even that goes up in flames once in a while.

Hmmmmm should we start to get worred about self suffish? 
I just can't imagine ACL getting heated over anything so I am really surprised. Everyone always seems so nice and friendly to each other over there (it is a bit cliquey) - I'm not a part of that as I just pop in now and again, but I still find it hard to believe!
