Re: Self sufficientish Toilet Paper
Hi Demi, yes we did. when I say build it ourselfs, I mean we did not get a company to do it. The hardest bit is the holes, but I had unwittingly made a freind at the local water board, who spotted what we were up to and promptly turned up with his bagger (jcb) and made huge holes for us. It is honestly not rocket science, even then there was loads of info on the net. It is really amazing how it just never seems to build up. I concreted a four inch pipe in the final top of the thing fully expecting to have have to pump it one day, but no.

When I was young, used my teacher homework reports, then when I started work used the Daily Mirror? after a few more years was reading the Financial Times , after that it all went pear shaped and I ended up using my cell mates copy of HANSARD which had a lot of shite in it even before you used it, but it must have been class stuff cos it had a crown on the front cover.
I can't do great things, so I do little things with love.

No I don't mind Susie
We use a mixture of the fluffy stuff and bum wipes which are basically just cut up towels that I bias taped lovingly to stop the towels fraying. Actually they last pretty well but have seen better days so I need to make some more now. One of my neighbours just uses cut up T-shirts which don't need to be sewn up as they don't fray. We have lidded buckets (remains of washable nappy days) and when they are full we put them on a hotwash. Simples - squeek

Re: Self sufficientish Toilet Paper
Mmmmmm...sphagnum moss...like cleaning your bum with an angel's wing comfort wise I would imagine...but here's the rub (if you'll pardon the expression) - You'd have to be mightily sure that there were no hidden insects in that moss, especially ones with a bite, sting or pincers. Sphagnum moss plain would be good but the addition of the insect may seriously reduce comfort levels.
There is another way of looking at this though (which could even go in the innovation section of this forum) if you were very fussy about cleanliness, you'd have to have great patience to pick out every scrap of moss afterwards; as for the rest us with green credentials, you could dispense with the 'picking' and simply start your own compost heap between the cheeks of your Come spring you'd be away on a hack.
Who started this thread anyway? This could keep me amused for months yet.

Re: Self sufficientish Toilet Paper
I happened to be lurking around the toilet paper (or bathroom tissue if you want to be very PC) section of the supermarket the other day. Yes, I know I'm sad but hey!
Anyhoo, I noticed they are now doing buttered toilet paper. Yes, BUTTERED with shea butter (whatever a shea might be...don't have them grazing around these parts). Buttered toast is nice, buttered new spuds are good, buttered crumpets on a winter's evening are most acceptable but why on earth would anybody want to butter their butt? Wouldn't old margarine wrappers do the same job?
I did warn you that this thread would keep me amused for months!
