What a coincidence... it's surely a fairly unusual name but a pretty one... She's a wee tinker.. always escaping and the other day I took a picture of her stood on back legs... front legs on madeleine, and reaching up over the fence to the apple tree!!

I love ice cream! What on earth does goat ice cream taste like? Congratulations on the pretty new 'kids' Shirley!

I got back from vacation Sunday night. While gone, I visited a herd of two dozen goats, of various breeds, and the nubians could produce a gallon a day! Rina is looking to disperse these goats, and her eighteen horses, six of which are haflingers. If only we had acreage!! :cry:

so you get all this milk - then what do you do with it? how much makes how much cheese
can you freeze goats milk? (we freeze cows milk fine)
what are you storing it in?

fancy keeping goats....i do...

I don't think your Madeleine would be suitable, though. She's got too much milk, plus no kid anymore. If you have a more average goat, and leave the kids with her as long as possible (until you dry her off, or, if it's a billy, you get rid of him), it should work fine. It also saves you a lot on feeding the kid(s).

You could also consider keeping the kids away from their mum over night when they are a bit older and eat solids, too; milk her in the morning, and let the kids do the milking the rest of the day.

i have just seen shirlz 2005 picture of her wonderful goats, just had to say they are just like our polo and rosie

They are truely wonderful girls best of luck with them.
