Amazon isn't cheap for me, by the time they add on VAT for France, loads of P&P and then add on some more which they shouldn't but isn't explained. :(

I've just ordered some books for Xmas pressies and I'm really pissed off with them with all the extras they added on, that I didn't know about until I had actually finished the ordering process.

I would like to buy direct from the site and I definitely want a signed copy!

M3 - Do you buy from amazon.fr ? they have quite a selection of books in English - might be cheaper than buying from british websites

re. independent bookshops, I know of some who do their ordering through amazon - ie. you ask for the book in the shop, they order it online, you pick up from the shop 3 days later at full RRP. A tad cheeky, don't you think.

No, cos I find Amazon UK hard enough to understand these days let alone the French site. I look up a book, it says they have 2nd hand books, you click on it and the price ranges from 88 cents to 392 euros  for a paperback novel!!! Doesn't make a lot of sense to me!!!

C'mon, even my french is just about good enough to manage the french amazon  I avoid the non-amazon sellers, I prefer to go to e-bay if I want a second hand books.

I was trying to find good french kids books (really basic, repetative toddler stories) for E but I had problem when it came to delivery charges... plus it is a bit of a gamble buying books when you can't browse.

Sorry, I've gone off at a tangent.

Anyways, I am sure you'll manage to convince Andy to sell you a copy direct

It isn't the language - that's not a problem. The reasons above are what I don't understand. Anyway they didn't have what I wanted!

That's pretty ridiculous... How can they rank a book before it's even published - and sell it off at cut price? :?
