Zyban's the other one. The NHS smoking cessation nurse didn't like them much, but said I could try one if the patches didn't work. She didn't elaborate though.

I gave up out of fear of a heart attack or stroke. I'd got to the stage where if that didn't finish me off the worry of it all would.

Its the smell of smoke that I don't like. How I put up with bf who smoked - I even smoked those herbal (honeyrose?) non nicotine ones to try to fit in but that didn't last. I like the smell of some tobacco in the pouches but when it gets smoked....

As for satsumas - I am addicted to those, and to chocolate (milk chocolate - Divine is just.....).

I look after a baby who is a month old, and he REEKS of cigarette smoke. Everything in his buggy, bag and him stink. He is TINY and already has a bit of a wheeze. I found a teddy bear in his change bag the other day, put it to my face and almost threw up. That's his BEAR - not a freakin' ashtray.

I gave up more than 4 years ago, and once when a bit tiddled thought "I should fancy a fag now" tried one and didn't get past two puffs on it, yuck. Just don't even fancy one now, at all. The stink of it turns my stomach, I think it's because I usually have one or more children clinging to me, and find it unacceptable to have them smoked over.

The dh smokes, and it stinks and he goes outside to do it. Makes me smile to think of him out there in a howling gale, because he NEEDS that cigarette.

My dad also died of lung cancer, and he knew he should stop. He kept stopping, then starting, then stopping, then starting. He knew what was killing him, silly sod. I do miss him.

((((hugs))))

My Dad drove himself to an early grave (39) through smoking, drinking and poor diet...I know it was early 80s and they didn't know so much back then... but I still blame him for not being there when I was growing up.

I also cannot abide people smoking infront of kids - I overheard a young girl in the street repremanding her grannie for smoking in front of her, and her wee brother.
There is nothing more sickining that seeing someone smoke while pushing a buggy...apart from seeing someone smoke when pregnant...

That is downright creepy!

(Blame the following on an overly vivid imagination if you want to)

Never smoked, but back in August my doctor gave me a prescription for pain patches. I only used a few and then gave up because they didn't work, but I left the box sitting in my room.

2 nights ago I had this vivid nightmare, about living in a post apocalyptic world being chased by zombies. When I woke up it felt like there was still one in my room (it was still dark), and I could have sworn I heard it speak. I spent the whole night frozen in my bed. The next morning I realized it had been standing exactly where the box of patches was sitting, and the room still smelled like something had rotted in that area.

Suffice to say I threw them out. The smell disappeared and last night I slept like a brick.

Oh no! The patches must be evil!!!

I took mine off before bed last night and had a much better night's sleep. The dreams were getting too much, waking me up, and I was getting more and more tired.

Still smoke free  Even hung around with a smoker for some of yesterday and found that I had to stop myself from lecturing.

That is odd Arimiel to have a similar dream, I just googled it to see if it is common and apparently it is and could be what 2012 looks like.

Hmm........Could be or could be just a signifier of change (post apocalypse) and watching too many horror films as a youth.

Carry on dreaming, then - and write your next book on the subject! We are all curious what the future'll look like....

I saw someone whose child I look after today. She is 8 months pregnant, and has a 3 year old who was in a buggy. Guess what she was doing? Most of the mothers do smoke in the glorious demographic I find myself in, that of government funded free 4-week courses in how to put nail varnish on while your children are looked after for free, and have a sumptuous buffet thrown in, oh, for free!
Different rant happening there. But yeah, smoking, kids, pregnant, no.

Good on you Andy. Are you finding it any easier yet?

I think the dreams are to do with a big life change. Thank God I didn't ever watch horror films.

I quit when we had our eldest almost nine years ago. It was bloody hard; the only way I could do it was to keep out of pubs for MONTHS. I lost masses of weight.

I still occaiaionally have one - about three times (no more) a year the mood takes me, and I steal one from someone, which I reckon is a minimal risk.

And those three fags a year are really, really good!

News from Alder Hey http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/mers ... 284793.stm

They reckon that upto a third of the children admitted for certain conditions are ill because their parents smoke.
