Thanks Gunners, I will give that a go, I do have some seeds heald back, I didnt plant them all, so I suppose if nothing comes up I can just plant some more.

I'm so excited, we've got 2 pieces of crown of rhubarb - Champagne variety which I understand is an old variety & not particularly easy to get hold of now.

Sad thing is, the old chap who had this plant & offered a piece to us, died last week. As there'll be no headstone for Tom, my friends & I are happy to have some of "Tom's Rhubarb" as a memorial to him.

We'll be up at the lottie tomorrow to plant it. I have to wait 'til my friends are around to dig the holes, as I'm still not strong enough. I do the directing & seed setting

We need to repair the greenhouse too, the window blew out in the recent winds. Actually, several bits blew out, but we've already fixed them back in.

thats nice - best way to be remembered. I have some of my granddads old garden tools, always think of him when using them.

I have my grandfather's hoe - with his initials carved on the side. He was born in the late 1800's and it is still going strong . Sadly he died in 1970 but likewise I always think of him when I hoe.

I am also itching to get going in the veg patch but it has been so wet I know I am better waiting - but the seeds are bought, the spuds are chitting and I think tomorrow I might go and put some plastic over one area to warm the soil up. Fine weather is forecast for the next few days at least so perhaps I could chance another row of broad beans.

well undid the netting on the spring cabbages hoed them and put some chicken muck and growmore in to give it a boost. put netting back scaffold netting is brill !
then pulled some carpets out to cover some from weeds,
dug round one of the runner bean rows roughly before i pull the old bean stuff down.
put carpet between wigwams with old metal stuff to weigh it down,
was inspired so sorted me first compost bin . then put a good layer of manure on top of the compost heap.might shove a bit of top soil on and put a couple of marrows dont know yet

Planted fruit trees on Saturday, Cut back a large amount of hedging on Sunday to let us, and our neighbour have a bit more sunlight in our gardens

Today -Cut some of the grass in the 'orchard' - it had grass 4ft tall :oops. Rotated compost and decided exactly where the raised beds are gowing to go.

sowed some parsnips, cabbage and caulis. dug in some rotted horse do into what will be bean trench. dug up weedy leeks.

hi everyone, i've only had an allotment for about a week - last year I grew some veg in buckets in the back yard so looking forward to planting out in beds this year. last week I cleared out the hen house and run, salvaged and sited an old compost bin, planted raspberry and blackberry canes and a climbing rose, and planted seeds in my blow away 'greenhouse' at home

edit to add today I planted some carrots at the lottie and sat on an upturned beer crate and enjoyed the sun

sorted out me three compost bins well there pallets and wood and big !

At weekend:
Sowed second lot of Broad beans (Express), first lot (Aquadulce) are now up 5cm, along with early peas (can't remember variety). Sowed second lot of early pea's. Covered them with soot from the fire as this 'parently puts off the bastard mice.("I's hates them meeces to pieces")

This year I'm trying a new approach of planting the beans as normal in rows, and interplanting peas, which hopefully will use the beans to climb up.

Fleeced the florence fennel, which has survived amazingly well the N.E winter so far, want to speed it's growth now.I planted the seed in September and the plants are "baby" fennels now 2cm across and 10-15cm high.

Nearly finished the fruit cage, completely constructed from bits of metal and wire found on my allotment!. Now planning the raised beds etc. inside it....then to order the fruit.

Started the chitting of my potatoes.

Got pissed off at work yesterday so put in a half days holiday and went down lottie to tidy up, set away a cracking bonfire and get rid of all my bramble cutting/couchgrass/maretail/clubroot build up. What a fantastic afternoon.

nah straight in the ground in drills, with radish seeds too. but I intend to do some in toilet rolls, planting the whole tube once germinated. just not go to it yet.
I experimented with it last year pictures here and am going to try again this year.

sowed some sorrel and calabrese in greenhouse (modules), and chillis in propagator

dug a 50 ft long trench for me runner bean row back filled with muck and earth ripped down old bean plants chucked left over seed into trench as its spare and last year some germinated at the right time so its a bit of fun me legs ache lol
