My best find was a gent's gold bracelet I found lying outside a pub door in the early hours of the morning. I handed it in to the local copshop and, three month's later, they wrote to me to come and collect it. Given that I'm not really into wearing "bling", I sold it to a local jeweller for the scrap value of the gold (£90 at the time).

This thread has been out of use for a while but I'm so excited about what I found I had to tell you all! I worked next door to a shop that sold and installed woodburners. Our rubbish bins were in the same area and I went out there one day to chuck some stuff and found a beautiful woodburning stove in their skip! Glass was broken in the doors but otherwise appeared to be intact. I asked them about it they said it was fine, just one that they had removed at a clients house to be replaced with a new one. They said if I could heave it out the skip it was all mine so after a struggle we got it home and it will soon grace the living room of our new house! Its amazing what people throw away.

That's amazing!

Makes me feel a little silly being so excited about the high taps I found on an old sink at our local tip. Now I just need to find the belfast sink to go with it.

A four person tent, one of those ones with a communal area in the middle, a porch and two 'bedrooms'.It was by the bins at the back of our flats. All intact, nothing missing or broken or ripped. I just don't understand :?

Well, the local tip has an area for stuff that could be useful, a couple of weeks ago I picked up a solid wood round side table. Yesterday I picked up a rabbit hutch (have been thinking about getting a rabbit for a while)
Yesterday I also found a small plastic rolling pin under a tree on beside the path to the veggie garden. How I never found it before is beyond me, we have been here two years.

They pop out of the space-time continuum randomly (yes, I have been watching too much Doctor Who).

Leaving aside random worm-hole deposits, (Doug Adams has a lot to be responsible for), we find alsorts left by the foxes: small trainer, single gardening glove,(not the one of ours he nicked when we stopped for a cupper, mind!), loads of fast-food packaging, (so tempted to return to place of origin :angryfire: ), but best of all today a £5! Maybe they're trying to pay for the polytunnel cover they ruined?!

As children, we were always finding stuff in skips and round the backstreets - we've still got a lot of it even now.
Around where I live now, people put stuff out on the pavements because the council will do a free uplift for some things and there's also a rag and bone man who comes round. I usually have a rummage and I recently found a painting that someone had obviously done themselves and properly mounted on canvas and wood. I thought it was quite sad it was being chucked out so I took it in and it's now in the spare bedroom. Also, I found a teapot without a lid to use as a plant pot, an abandoned scarf on a hedge and a working watch on the ground. Not a bad haul.

This gardening bussiness might be more dangerous than I thought!

The last thing I found was an old battered wooden chest/trunk in the top of a skip, which I took out, sanded down and repainted it in two different colours.
I plaited lots of old carrier bags together and used a staple gun to fix them to the top of the lid to create a padded top and then found a piece of old material in the second hand shop with stars and moons on which complimented the colours, which I used to cover the top of the trunk which in turn the kids used to store their treasure/junk in! (total cost a whopping 2 QUID!!!)

Yesterday my daughter took my 2 grandsons to feed the ducks on the pond whichis on the old pit site which has been made into a wildlife area with fishing lake etc. Theyd only been gone about 10 minutes when the phone rang, They had found a massive 2 storey rabbit hutch, (we have a rabbit & guinea pig) but she thought it'd be ideal for the 2 chickens as it was so big. They rang round & got a mate with a works van to pick it up for them, I nearly died when i saw it, it is HUGE, its got 2 floors connected by a ladder, 4 doors, 6 mesh windows and even still had a small earthenware bowl inside and a water feeding bottle still attached !!!!!!!
It had just been dumped by the pond. Im presuming someones pet has died and they decided to get rid before their children could ask for another pet. Hubbys going to give it a good wash out and im sure the chickens will love their new mansion, eeeerm just thought of something, seeing as its sooooo big maybe i could persuade hubby to get another couple of chooks
