Yesterday I planted some basil, and parsley seeds in trays in the big tunnel. I also have a couple of trays with 40 cell inserts in them - I have planted 10 lettuce seeds each of two varieties in each tray. In a fortnight I will plant another 10 seeds and therefore stagger the ages of the plants. One tray is a surprise for my Mum

I also have a seed tray full of toilet rolls and am trying as was suggested on here starting off my parsnips in them. Fingers crossed.

Today was spent repairing wind damage to a shed and a greenhouse

That's on the agenda for tonight - if I can get my a*** in gear! Three trays waiting for me to clean them out - still half full of compost from last year... And a few small seed trays for the propagator.

I have dug over a strip about 8ft x 20ft and while not thoroughly weeded, is on the way. I cleared all the rubbish from around my plot yesterday, and tried to pick up the smashed glass from what is approximately 2 greenhouses worth, but stopped after finding a syringe...

I have also found a teacup, a pair of tights and a wellington. Mercifully not occupied. After finding some rib bones earlier, I had vowed to stop if I found anything resembling a head or a hand, but I think an enterprising dog had buried it.

I have also found a lot of string marker posts, which I think will still be servicable after a good clean.

The weeds are just abominable, but I am determined to persevere. It is such hard work, and my back is killing me, but I am dreaming of growing my own produce (actually I'm not - I am dreaming of lots of other things as it is the only time I have silence)

In my own garden, I dug out one compost bin, turned the other and retired it to start on the other one. A few pints of wee will work a treat in the dustbin I put the compost into, and it will be good to go when the potatoes I planted in bags today start to grow! I also got a couple into the soil in the garden. I am determined to dig the seeds out tonight to try and do some sort of plan, but we will see how teething, coughing wretches upstairs get on if I am to have a relaxed evening!

I have the same problem in my garden, we have 2 patches of glass where green houses used to be. I have also found some odd stuff in my gardens (we own 2 houses and are knocking them into one, hence garden's')

I have found loads of bits of car, mainly an old triumph herald, wings , mirrors and carb to name but a few.


and just to bring the thread back on topic,in the past few weeks, I have made some steps down the garden, the classic BTCV style , 2 stobs and a pine log (from a neighbor when they where doing the fence), planted jerusalem artichokes, prepared ground for a polytunnel (8x10) and dug over a few of the beds, I also need to start some seedlings but I just need a few days with without rain.
at least there is longer days.

Constructed a fruit cage from old plactic green house (the plastic part was wind damaged last year and irrepairable! and some left over net!

Planted spuds, prepared beds for sweetcorn and runner beans,

Got finnal approval for having our chickens from in laws (who own the land we use!)

It has been raining here, really heavily for 3/4 days.

It let up this afternoon a little and we managed to fix a gutter, plant a bed with 100 onions and some shallots... left rows in between for some carrots to go in.

JohnM worked through a large amount of 'hedge prunings' - basically several full sized trees we have cut down to let our neigbour have some sunshine in his veg plot. JohnM managed to get 4 wheelbarrows of firewood out of them everyones a winner.

I made an attempt to cut some of the grass in the 'orchard' and ended up ripping most of it out and ended up with some muddy grassy sludge... as I say it has been raining for days... I am hoping that the grass will magically regrow

My heap is right under my neighbours window, and mine. Will it stink? Would you advise that I might urinate in the hours of darkness given the sensitive conditions?

Using a green felt tip pen carefully colour in dark areas.

We keep a pee bucket in the bathroom, it has a tight lid on it, we use it from first thing until early evening, then take it up to the compost heap... it doesn't stink at all... but our bins have lids on.

Weed tea however... stinks so much I could puke.


weed tea is a huge drum full of weeds and roots, allow it to fill with rainwater and then use said water to 'feed' compost bins or water it down for a plant food.

Thanks for info. I have started a horse manure dustbin with water, it's decomposing nicely but, I don't know if it will humm in the hot weather.

I once was staying at a house and getting fed for a few days for exchange for doing a few jobs, I was asked to sort something out for Pee >> compost arrangement, I done a dual loo system, one loo connected to the main system the "shitter" and the other, the "pisser" was connected to a pipe that flowed down to the compost heap and neatly finished with a old shower head, the sink flowed past the "pisser" to keep it clear. OK, building control would have gone mental, but they didnt find out.
