I haven't read the whole thread, but wanted to chime in - I'm a big fan of my mooncup and also use cloth pads. There is a wonderful producer here in NZ (well shes just moved to Aussie) http://www.outrageouscloth.com/. But the majority of mine are homemade and work very well indeed.
Initially I was grossed out at the thought of reuseable products but now I can't recommend them highly enough.

There are these too: http://www.jamsponge.co.uk/. I have some waiting for use - although I'm finding pregnancy and breastfeeding work even better (one period in the last three years and counting :))

It´s worth noting that these sponge things have all the same risks regarding TSS as regular tampons, rare but nevertheless not something that has been reported as a problem with pads or mooncups (versions of which have been in use since the 1920s).

One of my customers told me to check out this forum because you were talking about the Jam Sponges I sell.

I set up the Jam Sponge site in March this year and I checked with www.tamponalert.org.uk who are the charity that exposes the dangers of Toxic Shock Syndrome.

I can quote them as saying "We have no evidence of sponges causing TSS. All known cases of menstrual TSS have been in association with tampons containing man-made fibre, and in recent years this means RAYON."

This is on my website and on the printed instructions that come with sets of Jam Sponges.

I have also put on information about TSS just in case but I have not found anything that links sponges with Toxic Shock Syndrome.

If you do know of any papers or anything that does link the two then please would you let me know where they are so I can revise the information I give my customers and let Tampon Alert know too.
