Is it toads that have 9 lives?

A couple of weeks ago I was cutting some grass with my big old scythe and noticed something roll over in the grass as I swung the scythe. I noticed it was a toad, totally unharmed, it was just rolled over by the grass. It was about tea time so I popped it onto my veg patch to get stuck into some slugs. Yesterday morning I was looking round the garden and noticed (maybe the same) toad hopelessly tangled up in a net I had covering my cabbages. Anyway I whipped my knife out and cut the net away from its neck & limbs and off it hopped again reasonably unscaithed.

I have now taken the nets off the cabbages and am taking a risk with the pigeons. Can't win! Just glad I noticed the toad in time.

That's one lucky toad. Probably a cat in its former life.

At the start of summer, I rode to the river to look at fireflies, and was surprised by a loud, angry squeaking under my front wheel. I seem to have ridden over a bullfrog in the dark. It seemed to be OK. Amphibia look soft and juicy and vulnerable, but they seem to be tougher than they look.
