Moving house in April but seeds need sowing sooner ...

Hi all.

I am starting to grow some food at home this year. Broad Beans, Butternut squash, Lettuce, Spinach and Tomatoes.

Some of these need planting quite soon.

But I know that I am moving house at the end of April.

Is it a simple case of planting in movable containers? And once I move, will I damage them if I try and plant them into the ground at the new place?

Does anyone have any tips / cautionary notes?

Thanks so much - I have to say that so many of you are seriously hardcore self sufficient sounding! It's really inspiring! Kind of like extreme self sufficiency. Do you wear helmets and elbow pads?!

Spinach dislikes being transplanted, but it grows quickly so I'd plant some in a container for use as baby leaves soon and then plant more when you move...

BTW can you decide whether you're clare or clara.......very confusing

It's Clara, Clara! Clare used to own the VegBox Recipes login here, and then passed it to me when she moved on. Many apologies for the confusion...

And thanks for the spinach advice. I really appreciate that.

When we moved house in 1998 we had two pantecs; one for the house & one for the garden...I kid you not! We planted just about everthing into big pots and most of it survived the move. Strangely some of the rocket ran to seed, but I think it missed being watered durring the moving days.

We are hopefully moving again this year, but probably not till the Summer so most stuff will go into the ground as usual, but I will pot my runner beans into big buckets with a couple of long sticks and string to grow up.

Thanks MuddyWitch! I can quite believe it re the pantecs. Am not looking forward to moving the composter!!!

Really appreciate the guidance.

Have your crops been badly affected by the snow?

*grin* re the flat cap and knee pads
