I think I'm killing my patio rose!!

Please help!

3 months ago I had a really beautiful rose. Now, after forgetting to water it for a bit and then having the dogs knock it over all I have left are a few sticks :(

I'm being really good about watering it now as the care guide says to keep it moist and it's been having a feed of some rose feed stuff every 5 days for the past couple of weeks but to me it looks like it's still dying!

Do you have any advice or a miracle cure for me?

Thank you for reading

I hate to say this but ... looking at your photo I'm sorry to say I think it's already dead :pale: :pale:

I think the 'miracle cure' is to go and buy another one, and then transfer it to a bigger pot.
Bigger pots are a bit more forgiving of watering lapses.

What's wrong with "weird" ?
Although I'm more inclined to threaten rather than converse.

I talk to the dogs, why would talking to the plants be any different?!

I feared it was dead. It is getting more and more stick like by the day but haven't got the heart to throw it out just yet!

Whoa, now! Don't be so hasty. Methinks I see a spot or two of green on that there rosey thing.

If I were you (and if that was so, you'd be a person who had sworn blind that a rose or two was defunct, only to find it struggling back to life) I'd repot it with fresh compost, make sure that the compost is moist (not wet), and put the pot somewhere where you'll forget all about it. Then, arrange to remember it in three months or so and go and have a look. Maybe, just maybe, it will have grown out of its suicidal tendencies.

Worth a try.

I would prune back those brown dead bits to the green wood then wait and see what happens. Put it in a semi shaded place and keep it moist-ish. Here's hoping!

Okay then! I will give it over the summer to come back to life and chat to it daily making sure the neighbours don't hear me!

I do fear I give all plants the kiss of death though :?

Yes, indeed! I have a rose in the garden which was so dead it was unbelievable. It looked even worse than yours. I chopped it to about four inches high to prevent the dreaded thorn attack as you casually walk by (that's the same technique which nettles have). That was March of this year. It's now four feet high and has bloomed like a good 'un.

It's still in the wrong place, though.

The people who lived in this house before me must have chopped everything that anybody ever planted in the garden down to ground level... I'm just letting everything grow, and where I discover something useful, I try and encourage it.

And I now have a lovely little rosebush with two beautiful blooms on it! :flower:

Hmm, I have a rose by the back door which was always a little poor, until I started weeing on it! It is now 8ft high, and the flowers are lovely, and no leaf problems at all.
