Can anybody help identify these two plants that have appeared in my postage stamp of a garden and are they weeds, flowers or something else and should I be felt sorry for or commended ? The yellow plant is about 2-3 feet tall and the purple one about 1-2 feet tall.
Cheers m'dears

Don't know about the purple flower Rob - could be an Aquilegia - pretty but poisonous.
The yellow one, however, looks like the flowers on a brassica, of some sort, that's going to seed.
Having got this far you might as well wait a bit longer and collect your own seeds from it. The flower heads that are still in bud will probably be quite nice done like psb!

Bit of a funny angle and I can't see the leaves but aquilegia springs to mind, they are lovely flowers so KEEP.
The second is a brassica as Maggie says but most likely a rape plant in which case you probably wouldn't really want to collect seed

. Rape spreads around like a weed probably in bird droppings. Mind you I've never eaten rape, is it any good?

Thanks to both of you for your invaluable help. Brassica, eh ? Hmmmm - interesting since I am growing some already!

Rob I suggest you google some rape plants images to see if that is what you have. Then don't let it self seed!
By the way is it covered in bees? My curly kale which is flowering its face off it covered in bees, they really seem to love brassica flowers.

Hello, I'm not at all sure but from the pic the yellow one looks a bit like rocket gone to seed. We let some go over one year and it got everywhere. Some managed to grow out of a gap in the mortar on the outhouse and so we had two foot of spindly growth covered in yellow leaves growing out from the wall at a 45 degree angle.

Thanks for that, Jill - it is quite possible as we have been growing rocket in various places for many years and have since forgotten (like potato plants) where we put them so they keep springing up. It's very pretty anyway and adds colour to our postage stamp....
