Here is how I make my simple plain yogurt.

Buy a small container of plain yogurt to use as starter bacteria. Gently bring to a boil a liter of milk. Pour into a glass bowl. Let cool to to just being slightly warm. Mix in about two large tablespoons of the starter yogurt.
Heat your oven to about 300 degrees, turn off and let cool a bit, then put the covered bowl in the oven and leave for 12 to 24 hours. At the end of the period presto, there is a large bowl of yogurt. Save a covered container of this yogurt for the next batch. Store in the refrigerator. I make a batch usually daily.

Re: Yogurt
I don't bother heating up the milk. I find you get best results with full fat long life milk. I just pour milk into small glasses put in a couple of teaspoons of a good quality plain yogurt and mix together, cover and pop in the airing cupboard overnight, in the morning you will have yogurt. We flavour it with fruit, jam etc.

Re: Yogurt
I have been making yogurt for many years now and have tried various methods and milks and have found long life full fat milk mixed with milk powder and yogurt to be the best method, I don't have an airing cupboard so use a yogurt maker from lakeland, that is really just a plug in thermos. I make it overnight and pop in the fridge in the morning, really tasty and thick.Really quick too.
