Hello there ,

following the topics on 'I read the news today ....." it is funny to see that the topic's of Marmite ban and plastic
bag levy of 20 p draw more attention than the real important one's . Marmite ............... and then the sentence about
Danish pork being imported to the UK , why ? are there not enough pigs in the UK ? And with the pigs come the bugs .
All this for a cheaper piece of meat .
Plastic bags are just a bad habbit , like smoking .
A product of the 24/7 economy , both parents working ,hurry around all day , microwave generation .

Let's all carry on this way ,

regard's

Paul

Sorry, I don't really understand what you're trying to say here.

I think you're being a tad harsh there, Paul - the heading is "I read the news today ...", not "I only read the depressing bits of news today". Most people on here - including yourself, I'm sure - spend a lot of their lives doing, in their own ways, what they can about the state of the world. Sometimes it's good to also be able to have a bit of a giggle about Marmite.

Not sure if you read the threads, or just the headlines, Paul.

I think you'll find most people who posted wouldn't disagree too much with what you said.

Having said that, this is Ish. We respect everyone's opinions even if we don't agree with them!

What I find important is to stand by my own principles, much of what has been said and I do buy british and to be honest to me if I can't find it made or grown in Britain then I don't have it but we all get caught out periodically. Take yesterday for example, off I trot to buy some mouthwash, same brand as I always buy only to clean my teeth this morning and open the new bottle to find that it is now made in china  when compared with old bottle which I fished out of the recycling the old one was made in uk. Are we therefore incapable of making our own mouthwash???. The point of this post is to say that it is important to me to support Britain and I do my damndest. I don't have much money but I manage to buy British to the best of my ability!
With regard to the Danish pork, I do not personally buy it and would never dream of doing so when we have such wonderful produce here, that also goes for south american beef, lamb from new zealand which has been frozen for two years and polish chicken..now I am not saying that there is anything wrong with these products before anyone leaps at me, its just that we have our own and these cheap imports are to the detriment of British production. I find it very hard when I am at work and my bosses who are seduced by the te***o points revolution buy what ever is cheapest...and I have to cook it :angryfire:

I don't think you can figure out what people find important purely based on the posts in this part of the forum. Besides which, taking a quick look at the most popular threads, even where the headline seems insignificant, the discussions themselves *are* about important issues.

Marmite leads to discussion over additives. Plastic bags leads to discussion on waste and packaging. How are they unimportant matters?

What things do you think we should discuss? Maybe start up a few more threads.

^^^^^ Ditto chickenchargrill. Besides, how is waste and packaging not important enough to discuss?

Also we had the epic Boboff smiley controversy, wouldn't have missed it for the world  (felt a smiley necessary there to convey proper tone of playful irony but apologies in advance to Boboff).

Marmite is ok, I can take it or leave it. Honestly don't know why people have to take such a rigid stance on the subject.

It's obviously very important to be aware of a new date's views on Marmite. If he hates it, time to dump him.
