Found this growing under an apple tree in the lawn in my back garden earlier.

Could it possibly be St. Georges mushroom?

I don't think these are St George mushrooms, I found some the other day and they look different to what you have, I was looking in Roger Phillips mushroom book

I don't know St George's mushrooms very well (I've only found them once, and then I wasn't sure enough to pick more than one), but those look a little small to me. Have you done a spore print? I found some recently that I thought might be St George's, but the piece of cap that I left on a sheet of white paper dropped a distinctly brown print of spores by the next morning, so that ruled it out. The gills looked white when I picked it, but darkened later. I'm wondering if you might have the same thing. I don't know what it is, but not St George's.
