Hi, We spent Sunday making a womery and the worms arrived in their bedding on wednesday. We decided to introduce the worms to their new home and keep it in the shed first and put it outside after a few days. Followed the instructions, put the lid on and went in for a cuppa feeling good. 2 hours later, before going to bed we checked on the worms!!!!!! :(

The were escaping every which way. Good job they were in the shed. We put the light on and collected every single one we could find and put them back in their wormery. This time we removed the little bit of food we had given them. Removed the lid and placed a piece of clear plastic on the bedding and left the light on. The theory being they bury down away from light. Left them, waited another half hour then checked again. All good. Went to bed imagining wiggly worms were in my hair and on my toes. :?

Next morning, woke up and went straight down to the shed, I had this thought of worms everywhere, even imagined one on the handle as I opened the door.
Not a worm insight they must be under their bedding or completly escaped. I think I may add a sprinkle of water to make sure they are damp enough. I mean how damp is damp. The instuctions said they like their bedding damp and if the weather is wet they may try and migrate. It's pouring down. :? I've turned the shed light off as there is a window with some day light but I may go back and leave the light on for a few days.
Oh I have ordered "Worms Eat My Garbage" it may arrive today. Should have got the book first though LoL. Barb :flower:

the best thing you can do is make sure they have lots of stuff to compost. If they don't have food they definately won't hang around.

I would say damp is when it feels moist to the touch but doesn't clump when you squeeze it - so the worms can move through it easily and breath properly.
