there was a typical ITV tabloid thing on the news last night to the effect that large wind turbines were "only working for 25% of the time" - well, that would be true - the wind doesn't blow all the time!
Whenever I see a story that doesn't ring true, I tend to look at it's source.........
Yet another self-appointed body! - "The Renewable Energy Foundation" which is a not-for-profit foundation formed of individuals concerned by the uncontrolled growth in proposals and planning applications for power stations in inappropriate rural areas" - in other words it's a bunch of self-important tossers who are anti wind power.........

- a bit of googling turns up the fact that "REF" are in fact sponsored by an Iranian businessman - Vincent Tchenguiz - about who the Times wrote - http://business.timesonline.co.uk/artic ... 80,00.html - I note he has the ultimate vulgarian's status symbol - an utterly vast gas-guzzling yacht! - impeccable green credentials then! :dave:

ps, don't run away with the idea that I want unbridled growth in wind power - I saw the recent edition of the excellent "Coast" series, where they showed the proposed wind farm on the Isle of Lewis - to my mind that is several steps too far! :dave:
I agree with the gaelic speaker who said that they had no objection to generating their own power with renewables, but were vehemently against the enormous scheme. Like Andy, I reckon the real future of wind power should be with medium sized community projects, situated as close to where the power is to be consumed as possible - and for the few lucky people who live in the right spot to generate their own (and that precludes most urban areas altogether!) :cooldude:
