Ha ha, having receieved my copy of the council's propaganda magazine, I see they are expanding their plastic and card doorstep collections, and issuing a wheelie bin for ....(drum roll)... fortnightly collections of waste!!! One week recycling is collected, the next week rubbish. We are to have an aidot done on us to see what provisions we need, and get this, anyone with two children in nappies may be issued with an extra wheelie bin!!!
I will be asking if I can have a reduction in my council tax, or water rates as I will have two in washables, not dispicables. Mwah ha ha. can't wait to see how the wastrels on our street cope, and the OUTCRY that will follow. Yippee!!!

We have a similar system in Derby, with a blue bin for glass and plastic, a brown bin for compostables, bags for paper and textiles and a big black bin, collected fortnightly, for anything else.
You should have heard the screams and wails of anguish from people who couldn`t manage with a fortnightly waste collection, who filled their bin with non-recyclables in just a week.
Didn`t occur to them to try to reduce their production of rubbish!

i too live in cumbria, the north part, i ditched my garden waste and paper waste bins about two months ago, due to the fact i never filled them and i recycle all of these wastes and more, i only put my black waste bin out every three weeks now.

if everyone recycled like we all do then no one would have a problem with fortnightly collections. although my neighbour may have a problem she would not know how to recycle if it hit her.
