Anyone, anywhere managed to grow a mango plant from a pip?

I have a nice pip sitting in my window, unplanted as yet, waiting for me to do something with it!

Any chance of it sprouting ~ how do I go about it, if at all?

I found this on Kew's website - does look like a long shot

Mangos can only be grown under glass or as houseplants in the UK. They need a light sunny position and a minimum temperature of 18°C. They should be planted in a well-aerated humus-rich soil and watered regularly, taking care to avoid water-logging. During the growing season they should be given an artificial liquid feed approximately every 2 weeks. It is unlikely that they will flower or fruit in the UK.
It is possible to grow mango plants from seed; the seed should be planted as soon as possible after being removed from the fruit. The seed should be placed in a pot of humus-rich soil, with the kernel pointing downwards, and kept in the shade at 20°C. The first pinkish leaves should appear in about 3 weeks.

Thanks Andy!

Blimey, they are fussy little plants aren't they? I can only but try eh, but the info given is great.

I remember seeing the most enormous mango tree in queensland, it was mahooosive. Unfortunately, I didn't see it with the fruit on. It was the wrong time of year. I love mangos, I think I would have just pitched a tent and lived near that tree if I had the chance!

LOL  Andy, but I am in a state of concussion most of the time! A right ditherer me ~ ask Tracey.

And I did say 'near' to the tree, not under it where all the spiders would live.
